A Practical Choice: 2025 Passport

2025 Honda Passport
We have been driving a Lexus NX 350 2022 for 3 years. It rides stiff and harsh, thanks to 20" run flat tires, that after 17,700 miles need replacement at around $2,000. REALLY? Add to that premium gas, which after 3 years hurts just as much as year 1. Even more. Add to that 4 "updates" to software, or "recalls," if you prefer. The shifter is especially difficult for our aging hands, and … when you're in your 70s, that means a lot. I did my research, and I mean it. Enter the Honda Passport, "The Pilot on a Diet," as Motor Mouth says on You Tube. 1) The shifter is SOOOO nice: pushbuttons! 2) V6 engine! Are you kidding? It's quiet, powerful and torqued just right. 3) Regular gas! Man, oh man! 4) Roomy, airy, comfy. Not too big, either. A back seat we feel good about for our passengers, really comfy. 5) A ride that is compliant, yet confident. We got the TrailSport, which has 18" off road tires and a suspension tuned to handle bumps and holes. We live in the country, on a farm, 10 miles from a rural town, and honestly, that's kind of close to off roading. The Passport makes bumpy country roads feel much better, and we are confident the suspension and alignment can handle them, unlike our previous SUVs that were being re-aligned all the time. 6) Interior: we LIKE the minimalist, clean look with the moderately sized info screen smoothly integrated into the dash. We are not fans of having giant pizza boxes jutting out of the dash, and when we drive, we like to drive, not watch television. Maybe that's not you, though. 7) Tech: Honda does the simple things so intelligently. You'll appreciate that after a while. Buttons, etc. all make sense and are easy. The Apple Car Play joins the team easily, and that's great for nav. The radio is super easy to use and navigate. 7) Reliability: Hey, it's a Honda. Try and beat that for confidence in your name brand, because you can't. Everything is made to last, and did I say V6? Compare that to a turbo 4 after 100K miles and we'll talk again. 8) WILDCARD: My wife NEVER drove our Lexus, period, 3 years after her birthday present that it was, because the shifter was so hard on her hands, scary, and the ride was so jumpy. SHE DROVE THE PASSPORT HOME! And I smiled and smiled. It was so much fun.
