This SUV is great. It is just about proficient in every aspect. Most of the noteworthy downsides are small and insignificant. They include: busy transmission and lackluster acceleration, small infotainment interface, annoying and oversensitive forward collision warning, lack of steering feedback and cramped third row. As an owner, let me address these and explain why these are … insignificant. The transmission can seem a bit noisy around town, but the acceleration is fine, especially on the highway. The infotainment screen is a little small, but is versatile and easy to use. Honda probably should have put a little more into it with the redesign, but hey, it's only 2023 and there are changes yet to be made. I also love how it's undistracting and doesn't cause light glare. And about the overly vigilant front collision warnings, I love them. There is just no way you are going to crash this baby so long as they are active. They never send up false alarms, and their notifications should not be classified as annoying; they remind you to be cautious and are there for you if you happen to lose focus. For the lack of feedback while steering, I have one thing to say: The Pilot is not a sports car. It is a family hauler. Sure it would make the driving experience a bit more wholesome, but as it is, the steering is light and it handles well around turns. If you really want something sporty, maybe the CX-90 is the SUV for you, but it is not perfect either. And as for the third row, it's pretty tight. But the second row is roomy and can also slide, to make it easier for third row passengers without impeding too badly on their own space. Also, the small third row makes for great cargo capacity behind it even while it is up. Interior storage is class leading, too. And the third row is not intolerable, either. I come in at just about 6 feet tall, and I can fit somewhat comfortably.
The Pilot has a lot going for it. Added off road capability, Honda reliability, and a child friendly interior, which is simple, practical, and easy to use. The Telluride's appointments are convenient, but mostly so for adults and not kids, so at this price you may as well upgrade to luxury or full size. The interior, while not as quiet, is pleasantly muted and isolated and at least slightly keeps you aware of the outside world. Great SUV and no problems so far. UPDATE-- The car still runs as good as it did when we first purchased it. One thing I've learned since-- I noticed that the transmission isn't the smoothest shifting. However, using sport mode eliminates the problems I had with this.
