2024 Kia Niro EV
This is my fifth lease of an EV and my third Niro EV. I have over 10K on this version. Overall the car is a wonderful daily driver even in winter (Western NY). Why did I get this one? Larger than Kona, better built than Leaf and Bolt, safer than Tesla (lack of buttons is a safety hazard for me!). Cheaper than Ioniq 5 and has a rear wiper. Cheaper than Mach E with thicker tires for … winter. Unlike many cars Niro EV has a heated steering wheel in the base model in my area. Much more headroom than EV6 and ioniq 6 (we can't even fit in the back seat (6'3 and 6'5 son)). Visibility is great; hatchback is great. Efficiency is better than most EVs (often over 4 miles/kwh). Many improvements in looks and electronics/software since version 1. Kudos to Edmunds for including this on their list (many outlets leave this off even though the Niro EV has legendary status in N. Europe/UK). I disagree with the cons of Edmunds. The fabric seats on the base model are comfortable and if you select sport mode, the responsiveness is more than needed for legal safe driving. My minor cons (especially compared to the 2021 version): no sunglasses holder, dashboard climate/radio buttons are annoying (dual purpose as in EV6), no charge cable included, backup noise is too loud, no LED headlights (and made more difficult to upgrade).
