2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport
I am a person who does not like to drive the same can everyone else has. I owned 6 Saabs and loved them. Though I will admit that there likely was better vehicles. I once owned a Land Rover LR2. It was mostly driven by my wife. We loved it. It had a couple problems that were corrected promptly by the dealer. I read Edmunds (only one 2023 review) and other reviews before I bought … the 2023 Discovery Sport. Many were not very flattering. However, I thought I would take a chance since I did not need a large SUV and it seemed to have a little more cargo space and utility versus a comparable Mercedes or BMW X3. Which by the way are excellent cars. I am happy to say that after 3 months and 3000 miles not one problem. I am pleased with this surprise. There are only a couple negatives. The various driver aids are extremely functional and even more than I expected. However, they are anything but intuitive despite having owned many cars with similar features. Time has overcome this. The gas mileage is not very good for a small SUV. But this was known before I bought it. I get about 18.5 mpg around town and almost 25 on highway driving. This compares to a larger Subaru Outback (2022 Touring XT) that my wife mostly drives where we get 22 in town and 34 on the highway. The Outback is also a 4 cylinder and is about the same horsepower as the Discovery Sport. A nice positive is that this is the first vehicle I have had in recent years where there is almost no turbo lag.
