2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class
I purchased the 2002 clk 320 convertible in 2019 from a mechanics son with 95k miles on it. He had just bought it two months prior from a auto yard. No accidents or body work damage but she had a lot of other issues. Found a great mechanic and did a diagnostic test and inspection. The front end needed work, transmission was leaking oil and needed major repairs, all the wires were cut … behind the dashboard so I had no air-conditioning unit only the face plate in the hole, the radio was dead and every SBS ABS light was going off. I had constant heat coming from the dashboard because I guess when they cut the wires it was in heat mode so summer winter fall I had heat. The convertible top did not work and it was not fully closed due to the previous owner trying to fix it. Cd changer was broken, trunk cover, windscreen minor body parts were missing like the emblem and the part over the license plate lite. The battery was the wrong size and the alarm siren would go off at any point. It leaked around the windows when it rained. The rubber on the windows between the front and back window were damaged and missing, no floor mats the wood on the door panels was cracked raised and needed to be replaced, the cupholder component was missing altogether. But the engine ran like a charm and the transmission even with the rough shifting was still working. The MPG is great. Since I only paid $14,000 for it I went on my journey to bring her back to her happy self. I would find parts online buy parts from Germany and found a junkyard about an hour and a half drive away from me that had most of the other parts I needed. In 2020 and 2021 during Covid we had a lot of time on our hands so it was a joy more than a task to find the parts and get them to my mechanic for him to repair at a nominal fee. Every time I needed a part I’d say what’s the part number? and he would give it to me and I will find it and get them to him. I even replaced the headlights. To date 2021 she has just about everything working replaced or repaired. I updated radio from the original so now it has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, charges my phone, voice activation and it connects to the system in my Mercedes to let me know where it’s parked, everything a new 2021 vehicle audio system does and the speaker systems is awesome. The wood paneling on the door is a dark green versus the amber brown wood that I could not find. It now has heated seats. The element was added when I replaced the new dash switches. The convertible top operates and is is ready for it’s new canvas top and lining in about a week. It is fun to drive I love to punch it on the freeway just to feel the speed (on an semi empty freeway got it up to 130mph) and hear that engine roar note and leave everyone else in my rear view. My last item will be a paint job same silver but for now we are both happy campers.
