2010 Mercury Grand Marquis
When I heard Ford was not making this car past 2010 - 2011, I flocked to the Mercury Lincoln Dealer and bought a new "Ultimate" Grand Marquis. I sold my 2003 to a relative. I viewed a video on you tube where a 93 yr. old owner was getting a dual exhaust put on his 2003 Mercury. Well at 73 I thought I'm not waiting til I'm 93, I'm getting a Borla dual exhaust put on it and a K&N air … filter on the 4.6 V-8. This upped the h.p. and acceleration and gas mileage of the vehicle. In my book, there is nothing better than the sound of the roar of a V-8, rear wheel drive equipped with Michelin tires. And since the car has an installed tachometer, why not add the above mentioned! I'm from the old school, I don't need all the complicated electronics and I can add a GPS to my wind shield. I love the cushy ride, it is very comfortable. Mercury will be turning 10 years old in March 2020. It is still reliable and serving us well. The sound of the dual exhaust turns a lot of heads! It still has that nice cushy smooth ride. This is an update on my Mercury: The automatic transmission would not operate in reverse but was fine going in drive and shifting. I had to have it replaced and lucky for me, I have an extended mechanical electrical warranty that paid the majority cost of a replacement remanufactured transmission. We were out of the car for 2 weeks but thankfully we got it back with a replaced tranny. That was done by a major Ford dealership here in the Dundalk, MD. area. Also a couple of days ago a check engine light came on and it was diagnosed code PO301; no. 1 cylinder of the 4.6 L 281c V-8 had a bad ignition coil which was replaced and code cleared, so car is up and running great again! I figure that an 11 year old car is going to have problems and my Ford dealership along with my favorite local auto mechanical garage can take care of the problems. Update: My Mercury Grand Marquis is going to turn 12 years old and I decided to eliminate the air ride suspension and go with Strut Master steel coil springs and shock absorbers for the rear suspension and new struts and shock adsorbers for the front suspension. These items are from North Carolina, made in the USA. Now I don't have to worry about the air shocks leaking air, collapsing and the air pump burning up trying to keep air in the shocks. It can be very expensive to replace the air suspension and I don't have to worry about my Mercury sinking down at the rear. The mechanical suspension in the rear has a nice ride and I am happy with it. Update: No changes, car is holding its own, still reliable and dependable! Update: Merc is turning 13 years old still running great, everything that I can think of it working fine, just oil changes and normal maintenance done on it. We will be taking it to Ziebart for it's annual preparation for undercoating, exterior paint protection and interior cloth protection to the seats. I am now at the age to officially drive a grandpa car! Now it is 2024 and I am 79 and was 73 when I started writing this review. Time is marching on my Panther car is around 14 years old with body on frame with the smooth ride. I like watching videos on the channel you tube "Love What You Drive" So far I have removed the wide side body molding on the right and left hand sides of my car and replaced with 3/4" chrome molding. I think it gives my Merc a Lincoln Town car look. Reliable car the Mercury is and quite a daily driver. I had to replace some center wheel hub covers as the original were detioriating and fell off and got lost. When these are removed when the wheels are taken off for tire rotating, etc. they lose their grip to stay on. No complaints about the car; everything works. Oh yea, just remembered I had to have the front end shocks and struts replaced when I hit a gigantic pot hole at 65 m.p.h.!
Update: My Panther car is still running great! I removed some failing fading molding on the front and rear of the car and replaced with new 3/4" chrome molding to dress the car up. Bought some Ford touch up paint stick Silver Birch Metallic and touched up some dings, chips and parking lot minor scratches.
