When this car was passed down to me by a relative, it had around 88k-90k miles. The car now has over 97,000 miles and has been my daily driver for nearly two years. Mine unfortunately has a lot of dents and scratches on the exterior, but the interior isn't in terrible condition. I got this car for free, so I can't complain, but to add, I really wish mine came with the manual … transmission. This car has brought back my love for cars, has turned me to an enthusiast, and has made me plan on getting a manual for my next vehicle. I must say, though, that this somewhat unique car is still somewhat responsive and quite a fun drive with the automatic transmission (and adaptive shifting), despite Mitsubishis being known for not having the greatest automatic transmissions. I wouldn't say that it necessarily shifts smoothly. You are able to feel and hear the shifts, which I actually find kind of cool, but sometimes they can be awkward, and sometimes it seems as though the transmission will go back and forth between gears depending on how you are accelerating. With an aftermarket exhaust system this car will sound great and will make for more fun drives, guaranteed, even if you are running an automatic transmission. I have only had the resonator taken out of my *stock* exhaust system and an aftermarket muffler installed, and people still tell me the car sounds great. I think it does too, and it will definitely turn some heads. I got a check engine light a bit after I got the new muffler (the code referred to either an O2 sensor or the cat but I don't remember which it was), had to pay a mechanic to check that out. I got another check engine light last month, cylinder 2 was misfiring. My buddies and I fixed it by spray cleaning the throttle body and feeding the engine some oil, or at least that's what seemed to get rid of the misfire. The car was driving better after that, but based on our observations the car was pretty low on oil when I still had another 1000 miles to go before my next oil change which is kind of weird I guess. After all, there have been tales of Mitsubishis burning through oil. To add to the misfire fix I later got the spark plugs changed, the ones that were in the car before may have been factory. I have had no other issues with this car aside from that. Something to add is that the A/C / Heat knob is stuck/broken, so I have to go behind the dashboard and turn a gear that turns the knob. Basically, I can't have heat and A/C at the same time, I can't immediately switch from one to the other. They both work, though, fortunately. There are cheap replacement parts for the gear/knob online but I have not gotten to fixing it yet. The car protected me in a minor collision once. It's pretty good on gas but I'm not a big fan of only having 4 gears when I want to drive on the highway. It can be a little loud if you're running an aftermarket exhaust on the highway and can rev a little high if you're running the 4-speed automatic. The car also has a lot of wind noise on the highway. When going over 80 miles per hour the car can start to feel a bit unstable, I have been told before that the motor mounts on mine seemed to have gone bad and have also been suggested strut replacement (the car has a lot of body roll). However, none of that may be an issue for this car in better/newer condition. This car is a blast on downhills, not so much on uphills. It could use a bit more power, but with slower cars, the upside is that lower speeds feel more rewarding. I try to take care of this car but I can't help but try to have fun with it every time I take it out. I have thought about getting a new car, but I think I plan on driving this car into the ground. I don't know in detail what this car has been through before my ownership of it, but it seems on average to be a fairly low-maintenance vehicle. To add, it's practical, safe, spacious, somewhat comfortable, I took this car for a 2-hour drive two times without cruise control and I still somewhat enjoyed it as a new driver and as one of my first experiences driving long distances. I'm sure if I took the trip again with cruise control it'd be much more tolerable. I would say overall though that this is a great first car, and a great car for anyone who is seeking practicality, efficiency, reliability, and fun. If you are stuck with this car, I would say you're best off driving it until it breaks because it doesn't seem to sell for much. But if it does break, don't end up spending the vehicle's worth on repairs. The car doesn't seem to be too great on snow. The suspension is fine. The exterior is appealing. If you are able to get your hands on this car get the manual. This car has partially taught me how to drive, but more importantly it has taught me how to drive independently and with confidence. A great and fairly safe car based on my experience with it. If you get this car be sure to take care of it and it will give back. This car has changed my life.
