A Truck That Will Get You Places

Don't listen to the "expert" review on this vehicle. I just finished taking my Frontier on a 5,000 mile road trip out west through 10 different states. Up and down mountains, through windy roads, and some rough unpaved roads, and it performed great. Here are some key highlights about the truck:
1. This might be the most comfortable vehicle I've ever drove in. I drove 15 hours straight … with it a few days and never felt tired or sore. But if you're tall, I could see the lack of telescopic steering wheel being a problem. But the seat itself is comfortable and sits up high enough that your knees don't get sore.
2. The V6 performance is great. This thing has the acceleration of a spots car. I once passed 4 vehicles going up a steep 2-lane mountain pass no problem.
3. Fuel economy was pretty good for a truck of its size - I averaged about 23 mpg on my road trip and that was mostly driving over 5 mph over the speed limit. I once averaged 30 mpg on a 300 mile stretch through Utah, and 25 mpg on a 300 mile stretch through Wyoming.
4. The controls for the climate control and stereo are in good placement, and this is where the "expert" is most wrong. Many other new vehicles only have their climate control and stereo controls on the touch screen, but this truck has actual dials for them, which makes it easy to change while driving, compared to other new vehicles that only have them available on the touch screens.
5. The one thing that concerned me the most about the truck was the 9-speed transmission, as that many gears seems overkill, but that's just the way all vehicles are being built now. And compared to other new Fords and Toyotas I drove, it actually shifts really well and doesn't bounce between gears that much. As long as you maintain the same speed with city driving, it will usually hold the same gear driving in the city. And on the highway, with leaving it in cruise control, it almost always stays in the 9th gear, the only exception being if you are going up steep inclines, then it will down shift which is normal for any vehicle.
6. The steering is a bit heavy, but I actually like that compared to other vehicles with lighter steering, as it makes highway driving easier.
It is a great vehicle to take on road trips - smooth ride on the highway, decent fuel economy, comfortable, lots of room. If you are thinking about buying one I wouldn't hesitate. And it's a great value for the money - starting price was only $36k and by the time I got the features I wanted, it only cost me $40k brand new, which is cheaper than what you can get most lightly used trucks for.
