1995 Nissan Truck
Happy to see that there remain many Nissan hardbodies still scampering around the country. I owned a 1995 SE 4WD extended cab with the 3.0 VG V6 and 5-speed manual. Jet black on the outside with grey cloth interior. For its' time, Nissan was the class of the compact pickup market. Was well assembled with everything fit together perfectly with nary a rattle (which is more than I … could state for the Acura MDX I bought new 15 years later). Loved driving that truck, and the ride became almost car-like after I replaced the stock Firestone ATX tires with Toyo Open Country (with NO loss in traction). The manual enabled the truck to get decent acceleration from the 153 horsepower VG30E (I tested the automatic and found its' acceleration unacceptable to me), although my son claimed his Tacoma with the 2.7 4-cylinder (with automatic) had better pickup from a standing start. I never drove his to test that theory but maybe he was right. In truth, the VG V6 did the best it could; I had no problem getting to over 90mph but in a pickup truck, driving at that speed is not a good idea. Aside from that, it really was a reliable (smooth and quiet actually) motor which is proven in that the truck remains on the road today (24 years later) under its' third owner. Hauled everything asked; got an amazing 24 mpg on the highway, pretty good for a 4000 lb. vehicle. Radio sounded pretty good but the shallow rear speakers had limited bass sound. The 4WD system worked flawlessly and handled even 14 inches of snow like a dusting. Had mixed feelings when I sold it over seven years later, but I needed an SUV with a real backseat for three kids. If I could have kept it around as a second vehicle, I'd likely still be owning it all these years later.
