2023 Nissan Versa

Let's preface this by saying I'm amateur car reviewer and EXTREMELY picky driver. I am harshly critical of every car I drive and it takes an engineering act of god to impress me. This car is freaking outstanding. Absolutely blew me away for the price.
Handling--- Hands-down the BEST handling car on the market. Smooth, light steering that makes parking … maneuvers a breeze and is a commuter's best friend. It firms up at speed (like all modern cars, sadly) but firms up the LEAST of any car I've driven (I've driven literally hundreds). The only other car that comes close in lovely steering feel is the last gen Mitsubishi Outlander (but that car has a cheap, awful, rattly interior). The Versa steering is better than the Sentra, Altima, Rogue, and Pathfinder. MUCH better than a Corolla or Civic.
Ride quality -- The ride quality is very good for the segment-- well, for ANY segment, actually. It isn't as floaty and soft as I'd like, but it is softer and gentler than most. A ride that compares in comfort to the best everyday family cars. Definitely on the more comfortable side (this was the SR trim with biggest rims too). Ride comfort felt on par or better than the Sentra, Altima, and Rogue. Better than a Corolla or Civic.
Build quality-- Interior and overall build quality is OUTSTANDING. Head and shoulders above anything Ford, Toyota, Kia are pushing out. And on par with Honda and Hyundai. Solid feel to everything. All needed accoutrements. Great, simple infotainment. PHYSICAL buttons and knobs! What every car interior should have at a minimum. Build quality absolutely embarrasses anything Toyota makes.
As for power-- the engine is expectedly weak when accelerating. It is a 1.6L, after all. As many reviewers state: you will want to ensure you have adequate room when merging or getting up to speed since it will take a while for the engine to spool out its 122hp. "Flooring it" is really the only mild Achilles' Heel of the Versa. When you're up to speed or going from 40 to 70mph, the engine is perfectly fine and doesn't struggle. When you're at low speed off the line it doesn't struggle --and is actually quite peppy. Nissan tuned the engine VERY well. But again-- if you're pulling into traffic and flat-foot the accel pedal, you'll push it to the floor without much or any noticeable acceleration. It def takes time.
Noise---The Versa is surprisingly quiet at hwy speed (50-70), only letting some wind noise unsettle the quiet. Really, really impressive. This is quietness that rivals the Lexus RX and Chrysler 300. For some perspective: I've driven the Lexus ES 350 and RX 350 and was disappointed in how loud they were--- I drove the Versa and was blown away by how quiet it was. Granted, there was some significant time between drives, but completely ignoring the expectations of the segment I'd venture the Versa was quieter than both of the Lexus. Which is insane.
The only personal "cons":
The engine-- It is so slow to accelerate. I wish it were a 2.0L with better acceleration. Nissan SHOULD put the 2L in this thing. Or their VC turbo 3cyl from the Rogue. At least in the SR model (but don't change the steering and suspension). Seriously-- axe the Sentra altogether. The Versa is better in every way.
There was a very noticeable rattling from the plastic cage that surrounds the Nissan Safety Shield front-facing camera on the windshield. Very obvious and very annoying. It looked like it could be fixed in place to not rattle by the dealership, so be sure to check that and have the dealership fix it before (or as a condition of) you buy(ing) it.
