2025 Volkswagen ID.4 Consumer Reviews

VW winner!
I have read the Edmunds review and many EV’s and I drove quite a few, Hybrid’s and EV’s. I decided to purchase the Pro S front drive only ID.4……I would give it a 9.5. It is extremely quick and so fun to drive. It is a solid vehicle and hugs the road like it is glued down. I think if you compare to a $100,000 EV yea there will be a difference in power, but frankly you do not need it. I have owned BMW’s, Porsche’s, Lexus, Audi’s, Infinities and driven race cars. Anymore power is basically dangerous for most drivers to understand and control a vehicle that goes 0-60 in under 5 seconds. I am not sure how Edmunds does their “real world” mileage but using the regenerating feature on the ID.4 when I charge to 100% I have a range of 340 miles! I to me definitely is one of the best looking small SUV EV’s. Many look quirky and down right ugly, as if they are trying not to look like a gas vehicle. Loads of room inside, and I am 6’3 250lbs and have no issue in and out as well as headroom, shoulder room etc. We have a car seat in the back for our 2 yr old grandson and the front seat has room for a person t sit it in it unlike the Lincoln Aviator I used to have! All in all best car I have purchased for a while and enjoy driving of instead of my other $135,000 vehicle.

Roomy spacious fun to drive
Not sure how this compares to Tesla but certainly lower priced than similarly equipped. Software needs work and UI is not intuitive and slightly buggy. Otherwise it's an amazing car and had a great experience driving 500 miles in a day. Charging network is great in California and never felt I would run out of juice.

Excellent EV SUV
Have a 2023 ID.4 Pro S with the SK battery and have owned it for a bit over 6k miles now. Absolutely love it, it’s an excellent vehicle, roomy, quiet, comfortable, great ev range and battery charging speeds. Really nothing to complain about, no issues with the car, the infotainment issues are over stated especially with the newer software, the software on this car is just as good as any other car software I’ve tried, never had any issues with it. Cross shopped Ioniq 5, EV6, Mach-E and Model Y and ended up going with the ID.4, the ride in the ID.4 is just excellent better than any of those cars especially the Model Y and Mach-E. The software is not an issue like I said before and the controls aren’t really either, you get used to them almost immediately. The only issue I have is that the middle controls are not illuminated at night, but I got used to it within a couple minutes of driving at night. The value of the ID.4 was also some of the best out of all of those cars, it also has the full tax credit which the Ioniq 5 and EV6 don’t have. The only other criticism I have is the audio system isn’t the best thing in the world, it’s fine but not great. But aside that and the illuminated controls I have absolutely no other issues with the car. I love it. Would absolutely recommend.

Small issues
the good: Great looks. Much more power than I would ever need. Ok range. Overall nice car. Software issues are not as bad as online complaints. Wireless iphone/android is useful and works. General complaints: Visibility is a real issue. Front columns are hindering right and left side. when making a 90-degree turn, there is pretty much no visibility of pedestrians. You have to lean all the way forward to check. I like the seat higher, when the seat is high, i brush my head when entering. I am 6'3". minor complaint: need to confirm user every time. Reliability issues: I had to bring to service twice in on year for small issues: Rear view mirror fell off at 8 months. Possibly from heat. Took over two weeks to fix. After the fix, rain sensing never worked. I turned on/off from menu multiple times. Driver side touch door lock was always flakey, it worked about half the time when brand new, gradually stopped working. Passenger side touch door lock is also flaky, but not as bad as driver's door. Driver door handle latch actuator stopped working yesterday. Need to pull hard to open. Fairly inconvenient. Slow service: Just diagnosing is taking multiple days. Car stays in dealer for a week while total work done on it is just few hours.

Great looking ID.4 and very efficient
I have had this car for 6 weeks and my commute driving has been really pleasant. My ID.4 Pro S AWD has all power needed for normal driving. First 1200 miles efficiency is 3.7 miles per kW (3.7 x 77kW usable = 285 miles range). Only 20% highway, and heater not needed much. The heated seats and steering wheel have been just right. The sunroof is excellent with automatic cover that closes in any position. Trailer hitch is good without $1000 extra charge. (Y) Sound system has been plenty good. User controls have been easy to use and I turn off most of the automatic features like easy entry driver seat and "unlock when approaching". Free charging for 3 years is great and convenient right near my house. Only one bug is that drivers window goes down sometimes when it should go up. Still this gets 5 stars.
