The 2024 Volvo C40 Recharge is an all-electric subcompact SUV with seating for five. It's available in three trim levels: Core, Plus and Ultimate. Two drivetrain configurations are available for the C40, including a single rear-mounted motor paired with an 82-kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup powered by a 78-kWh battery. Single-motor variants produce 248 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, while dual-motor models make 402 horsepower and 486 lb-ft. Which C40 Recharge trim does Edmunds recommend?
Rarely do we recommend the range-topping model, but in the C40 Recharge's case, the Ultimate trim is a pretty good value. For about $5,000 more than the base Core model, you get adaptive cruise control, enhanced lane keeping, a Harman Karmon premium audio system, and all the contents of the Climate package. The 402 horsepower of the Twin Motor powertrain is tempting but we'd probably go with the Single Motor version, which offers adequate thrust and 40 miles of extra range.
