Trim level differences
The 2025 Volvo XC90 is a three-row midsize luxury SUV offered with three powertrains. The B5 has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine (247 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque). The B6 uses the same engine but with an increase in power output (295 hp, 310 lb-ft). Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The T8 is a plug-in hybrid with an electric motor powering the rear wheels (combined output 455 hp, 523 lb-ft) and an electric-only range of 32 miles on a full charge. Which XC90 trim does Edmunds recommend?
We suggest getting the Core trim. It's the XC90's base trim level and missing some of the finer luxury touches of the upper trims — leather upholstery, ventilated front seats — but we think it's still the sweet spot for most buyers. We also suggest getting the B6 powertrain since it offers more power without any significant effect on fuel economy.
