2025 BMW X7

When two rows just won't get the job done, the 2025 BMW X7 is there to answer the call if luxurious trappings are also a prerequisite. The X5 may technically offer a third row as well, but that tiny thing is barely suitable for kid duty. Updates to the X7 are likely to be minimal as it carries forward into the 2025 model year.

Edmunds spotlight: M for mighty

The base X7 is no performance slouch, with the xDrive40i's turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine producing 375 horsepower and helping the big SUV hustle from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds in Edmunds' testing. But if you want to bump things up a notch, the M60i is happy to oblige with its 523-hp turbocharged V8 that will get you up to speed even quicker.

Competitors to consider

Predictably, the X7's closest competitor comes from Mercedes-Benz. Its full-size three-row SUV, the GLS, doesn't feel as modern in its design as the BMW but it does offer more interior room. Then there is the large-and-in-charge American contingent, with the truck-based Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade, which go even larger than both of the Germans when it comes to interior room and towing capacity.

The X7's impressive cabin and performance for a big luxury three-row SUV show that a family-friendly vehicle can remain interesting for both driver and passengers alike.
