Santa Monica, CA, November 22, 2000 - Edmunds.com (http:// www.edmunds.com), the web's leading consumer resource for unbiased automotive information, has promoted members of its executive management team. Effective immediately, Peter Steinlauf will become the company's first Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Jeremy Anwyl its President, and Bob Thomas its Chief Operating Officer.
"These promotions signify our Board of Directors' recognition of the dedication and effort of key players on Edmunds' executive management team," according to Peter Steinlauf, Chairman and CEO of Edmunds.com. "Additionally, the shifts in title help clarify the roles of the concerned individuals, and reflect responsibilities already undertaken."
Peter Steinlauf acquired Edmunds (then Edmund Publications Corporation) in 1988. In 1995, he founded the company's web site and dedicated the resources to establish Edmunds.com as the pre-eminent automotive website on the Internet. Before acquiring Edmunds.com, Mr. Steinlauf owned and operated Independent Outdoor Advertising, Inc., a southern California outdoor billboard company. Previously, he was a staff member of the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C.
Jeremy Anwyl joined Edmunds in January 2000 as Chief Operating Officer. Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Mr. Anwyl began his US business career consulting for independent automobile dealers. This led him to form Marketec Systems Inc. in 1990, through which he undertook development and implementation of major branding, retailing and distribution initiatives for General Motors, Ford, Toyota and Nissan.
Auto industry veteran Bob Thomas was named Edmunds' Chief Executive Officer of North American Operations in June 2000. The former head of Nissan North America, Inc. is responsible for sales and marketing, partner relationship management and business development. He began his automotive career in 1972 with the Lincoln Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company following an honorable discharge as a Captain in the US Air Force.
Earlier in the month, David Haupt was promoted to Chief Information Officer. Mr. Haupt began his career at Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. After receiving his MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern, he served as an information technology and strategy consultant for KPMG consulting and DirecTV before joining Edmunds.com in April 2000.
