  • WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A USED CAR DEALER

3 out of 5 starsby MartinGoldberg on 07/01/2015

I bought a high mileage 2009 Honda Element from Open Road in June of 2015. We just need it as an extra vehicle when we have large packages. Hameed my sales person was very pleasant to deal and what I am about to say should not reflect poorly upon Hameed. However, the old sales manager with the white hair whose name I don't know is pretty slippery. During our negotiations he insisted I look at the computer screen to show me how much the dealership had invested in the vehicle to justify the selling price. He showed me a figure of 1200 dollars that he claimed was the amount invested in the car. When I asked what did they do for 1200 dollars he said "I can give you that information later." After making a deal and as I was waiting for the car to be prepped just for the hell of it I checked with the service department. What was they did for the 1200 dollars? They did was an oil change. A regular engine oil change. On the other hand the guys in the service department are gems and I can't say enough good things about them especially Stan. He really goes out of his way to make you feel like a valued customer. I have bought several cars from the dealerships at Open Road and I have to say this was the first bad experience I had. It is especially bad because these types of representations reflect poorly upon the entire dealership most of most of whom do a great job. The one thing the sales manager did well was to knock what should have been a 5 star rating down to three. The term CAVEAT EMPTOR if shopping for a used vehicle from Open Road.
  • Misleading marketing ploy.

1 out of 5 starsby monsaint on 07/01/2015

Was just at the dealership and see if we could make a deal on Honda Odyssey. Days ago used edmunds to find a price for the vehicle, the initial quote from the edmunds was more compared to the other dealership, so ignored their pricing. A few day later got an email with a quote cheaper than the initial quote. Got to the dealership, showed my email. Low and behold the fine print on the email says price does NOT include destination charge. Checked the original quote, it reads price INCLUDES destination charge. Misleading marketing ploy. Not going back there again.
  • Used car sales

5 out of 5 starsby Ahnn on 01/02/2015

I was pleased with the experience buying a certified pre-owned Accord from Open Road Honda. My sales specialist was Frank Khalil who was very helpful, patient and pleasant. He did not pressure me at all (the car sold itself). The dealership was efficient once I decided to buy. I went to Open Road partly because my husband has had excellent service from them on his Honda, and partly because of their inventory online. Would definitely recommend them.
  • Bad Service

    updated 11/21/2014

The sales are just typical sales, they are not sincere and they want make profit from your purchase. You think you have a good deal on the car but wait until you do your maintenance. Those sales in the service dept will surely over charge you. The 5 stars review must be written by their own sales, hmmm, maybe by their family members. Ha.
  • Smooth experiance

    5 out of 5 starsby puffdattie1 on 11/18/2014

Had a great, smooth experiance. Got a 2015 Honda Accord for $600 less than my next lowest price. Also, Eric in finance gave me a great deal on the tire protection.
  • Outstanding Service

    5 out of 5 starsby GEM410 on 11/18/2014

I've been coming to this Honda dealership for eight plus years and wouldn't buy a Honda anywhere else. The sales team and service department are the absolute best. Everyone is professional, courteous and make it their job to have nothing but satisfied customers. During my most recent visits, I was assisted by Michael Goworek, Service Advisor. This was my second time dealing with Mike and he was great. I was greeted and checked in promptly. This is the norm at Open Road Honda. I've been assisted by nearly every service advisor at one time or another and the entire staff rocks. Thank you for providing me with outstanding service once again. PS My repair was covered under my extended warranty. Sincerely, Mary E. Hunsicker, South Plainfield, NJ

  • Poor Service

    1 out of 5 starsby cthe1strat on 07/14/2014

Like the title says...They try to sell me a car for more than what I was offered at another dealer, then continued to pushed to me buy. When both the salesperson and sales manager were trying to explain how they got the the price with the tax, destination fee, etc...I did the math from the numbers they wrote down and they did not add up. When I was ready to walk out, they would not give back my license...so rude! Don't go to this dealer. First they try to rip you off, then they're not very friendly.
    • This is certainly not the typical experience here at the dealer. If there is ever anything I can do to personally assist you with service or sales, please let me know. Dario Albarron Open Road Honda dario.albarron@openroadhonda.com

  • Dishonest

    1 out of 5 starsby Smart_Shop on 07/06/2014

I gave Dario, one of the Sales Managers at Open Road Honda, the trade in value I received from 3 other dealers. He promised he would come in at $500 less than the other trade in values and made the price of the car better. I drove 75 miles to get there and he went back on his deal even though I showed him other appraisals in writing. They're a rip off on Honda Care service contracts too, almost double what I found elsewhere. Don't waste your time here like I did.
    • As the customer states he did provide me with numbers from other dealers and i explained that as long as his vehicle was in the condition he was describing to me we would give him $500 more than the other dealers had offered to him. Unfortunately when the vehicle came in for inspection there was a quarter sized paint chip that had not been treated in time and was showing rust. That spot is why the vehicle valued was different than expected.

  • Happy with my honda

    5 out of 5 starsby Mpa1964 on 06/24/2014

I purchased a Honda Fit from Sam R a couple of weeks ago. He was courteous, knowledgable, and sensitive to my aversion to a high pressure sales approach. I actually went home to think about it before making the purchase, and Open Road Honda gave me a lesser price than what was quoted to me when I left. It was a pleasure to work with Sam.
    • Awesome working with Sam has always been great. He is one of the most courteous sales reps we have here.

  • Oil Change

    3 out of 5 starsby edison4 on 10/19/2010

My last oil change I was told my Accord needed new spark plugs, however I changed them myself just 2 weeks before I bought the car in. Every time I go for routine service they try to sell me some additional service or part. Time for a new dealer, Autosport seems to be getting all the good press. People read these reviews and take them very seriously Mr. Dealer.
  • Be careful

    3.8 out of 5 starsby miked22 on 08/22/2010

I went to this dealer because they had the color car I wanted. I had a good internet price already and I had no trade. I could see why people have trouble with this dealer. I knew when they quoted me the price without destination that I could be in trouble. Things went pretty well until they hit me with a $398.00 doc fee and a $299 etch fee. Eventhough the doc fee is about $150 higher than everyone I paid it. I flat out refused the etch fee and they told me it was not optional. After I threatened to walk they removed it. I knew more about the car than the salesman did. On the positive side the Finance guy was a pleasure to deal with.
  • OPEN ROAD HONDA SERVICE EDISON NJ

    1.8 out of 5 starsby fashionista1 on 06/08/2010

In June 2010 I went to open road Honda Service in Edison, NJ to get a wheel alignment, oil change tire rotation totaling $130.00. I dealt with a service advisor by the name of DANNY DOCARMO. He was very helpful and had me convinced I was in good hand until something went wrong his true colors of unprofessionalism and ignorance came through. After I paid for the work I went to the valet employee to pick up my car and I noticed OIL FINGER PRINT MARKS ALL OVER MY PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SEATS ALONG WITH MARKINGS ON MY SUADE DOOR HANDLE. Prior to coming in for service my car was immaculate so I expected my car to be returned in the same condition, unfortunately it was not. When I confronted Danny about the issue he immediately became defensive and said that it wasn't anything his mechanics did. I showed him the marks that were clearly done by his "PROFESSSIONAL MECHANICS" and he continued to deny it and implying that I was lying and that the marks were there already. He went as far to say, "There is nothing I could do!" and threw his arms down and WALKED AWAY! When I did try to talk to him he continued to dismiss me as if I THE CUSTOMER meant nothing. He stated we have many people that come through these doors and try to "scam us" by blaming honda for issues that weren't caused by honda. I was floored that he would put me in that category and say that I was trying to "get over." I couldnt believe I was having this conversation with someone who I thought was a service professional. I was beside myself and asked to speak to manager who instructed the valet employee to bring it around to the car wash in an attempt to clean it. During the cleaning of the oil marks Danny (incompetent service advisor) went as far as bringing the mechanic to me and asked me if I saw any oil stains on his clothes??!! I replied that the markings are smeared fingerprints, nothing to do with his clothes. In short, that problem was rectified because of the valet employee washing out the marks. But the service and treatment that I received that day was unlike any other. I was disrespected to say the least. DANNY DOCARMO WAS UNPROFESSIOANL AND I RECCOMEND HIM TO NO ONE. A person like DANNY DOCARMO should not be in customer service field, he knew he was at fault and didn't want to admit it. The issue was no longer about the careless, messy finger print, markings it was about the disrespect and poor service I received that day! This issue will be taken to corporate.

I've received an online quote for the car I wanted in a form "xxxxx + registration" from Christopher Hallmark, their internet manager. That was not as detailed as I wanted, but acceptable. Upon arrival to the dealership I was attacked by a [violative content deleted] (sales guys), that was expected. One of them, Abdul Fraser, was appointed by Chris as my sales guy and let me test drive the car I wanted, but of a different color. They had no colors I wanted in stock, but they guy kept insisting on the colors they had on the lot. They also tried to lowball me on the trade-in with an initial offer of $1800, then $3500 and finally $4400. According so KBB the trade-in value was around $4550. I told them I'm going to shop around with few other dealers before I make my decision and left. Keep in mind, they Open Road Honda charges the highest documentation fee in the area - $398, about 100-150 more than any other dealers. I think they are also charge advertising fees. Do you home work before you visit them.
  • Avoid Open Road Honda

2 out of 5 starsby msinghan on 04/25/2010

i have had a very bad experience buying my first car from Open Road Honda dealership. The finance guy pressurised me and conviced me that the interest rate he was getting was the best and he also forced me to pay for GAP insurance. He said "It's a condition from the finance company" even when i had paid $4k cash. Later when i did some research i found out that in case my car gets total, i don't get a penny, finance co. gets the difference of money paid by insurance and outstanding loan, which in my case will never be useful as i paid $4k advance. I cancelled GAP later on, without any objection from the finance co. That clearly indicates that finance guy at open road honda lied and cheated me with wrong information and forced me to pay for something i never needed. Yes, i accept it's my mistake as well, i did not do my research before going there, and they surely took advantage of it. I would bever go there again and never recommend it to anybody. Another thing i forgot to mention, after the sale, they don't bother about you. my temp registration expired but when i called they said they don't have the registration yet, and when i went to the delership to complain about it, they had it ready....within hours...
  • very high pressure, bad place to learn how to buy your first car.

2.5 out of 5 starsby dannyaq on 01/20/2010

Well, this is my first time buying a car and this is the first dealer I went to. I went to check out the honda fit since i read so many great things. I get there and all the sales people are standing in front apparantly business is slow. I tell the guy what I am looking for and he quickly gets me into the car. the low gas warning light happen to be on, so i did a lap around the parking lot and thats it, understandable mishap. Then he sits me down at his desk, and quickly gets into prices and financing. I try to tell him I'm looking between the fit and the corolla and not even certain if I want a new car as opposed to used. He also goes on about leasing since i mentioned used, but i'm not really interested in leasing, and it doesn't help he explains it in a way that masks what you will end up paying in total. Anyway, the last offer he put or the car is $14,500 (for a base automatic) or something around that price and if I was more seriously and pressed him for it, I may have even been able to talk him down more. Even if you tack on $500-$700 for fees, the TMV of the car on here is $15,100. So it may actually have been a good deal I can get, but I realized I really can't afford new when I had all these numbers presented to me. So I went to the used car department... This experience was much worse. I tell him I want a fit, and he says he has one and immediately gets me to test drive it. After getting to drive it for more than 200 feet I realize I don't find it particularly comfortable and when we get to the table and he starts at $13,500. He was shocked when we said they offered $14,500 in the new car department for new and told us we wouldn't be getting it for that price here or anywhere else (so now even if I wanted to go back to buy a new car I don't know who to believe since the deparments are competing against each other). He seems to settle on a figure of $13,000. By now, I realize i didn't do my homework and want to bow out gracefully and say sorry but not thanks I need to the financials since I mostly just looked up new car prices. But he wouldn't let us leave even though I knew this was going nowhere and I'm fairly certain he did. I would have tried to look at older civics that would be cheaper, but he gave me no chance to transition away from talking about the fit. Also interesting to note, we talked to the receptionist at the desk between the new and used departments. and he was so refreshingly frank they need to promote him to a salesman. I'd buy from him in a heartbeat. He asked if we needed help so, thinking he was a salesperson, I said I looked at new fits and now I want to look at used ones, and as an off the cuff remark he goes oh yea those will run you about fourteen thousand something. and when I mentioned the civic he said a couple thousand more, then he directed me to the used department. If only the sales people I talked to gave me a price that quickly. I don't want to jump through 15 minutes of hoops to get a ballpark figure or even a sticker price.
  • avoid this dealership if you can

2.3 out of 5 starsby wcccw on 09/18/2009

They quoted the price without including the destination charge, so when comparing to other dealer's quotes, their price appeared lower. In reality it was $300 higher than other's. They also tried to cheat me on the etched glass anti-theft code for $299 which came in as standard from the manufacturer. They charged $389 for the documentary fee which should be around $100-150 for most of the dealers. The salesperson rushed through the contract without honestly explain my questions.
  • [violative content deleted] Signed Contract with Deposit Yet They Would Not Honor

1 out of 5 starsby destefano on 08/21/2009

On August 17th,2009 my husband & I walked into Open Road Honda in Edison,NJ. We already did all of our research regarding the new car we wished to purchase. We went through their internet sales department because of their no hassle special pricing. We made sure they had the exact car that we wanted, that they were participating in the C.A.R.S. government program & that they would take my 2007 Honda as a trade. This dealership was over an hour away from our house. When we got there,we were introduced to Wajid Rauf, who was an internet salesman. They researched my husband's truck & saw that it was eligible for the $4500 government incentive. Then they took my trade to have it appraised. Our salesman came back 45 minutes later with a paper that had $10,700 circled on it from the appraisal department. He did not show us this paper,my husband just happened to see it. He walked over to the manager's desk with that paper & came back to us with the offer of $9500! This was the 4th dealership we had been to & every 1 of them had offered us $11,500! We argued. They were $1000 less in their "no-hassle asking price" which got us in the door, but offered $2000 less for my trade! After going back & forth many times between us and one of the sales managers & not being able to get the trade value increased to $10,700,we asked to see the appraisal sheet. They both acted like they didn't know what we were talking about. They got up & involved Jamie Vasco a sales manager. They came back;apologized stating they never saw the sheet until now & said they would give us $10,700! With that, the deal was done. We signed a purchase order with the VIN number to our new car & left a $500 deposit. We were told there was no rush to bring in our clunker & we could do so when we picked up our new vehicle. Our car was in transit to the dealership and would not be there for about 12 days. We were unable to speak with the finance manager that night. We were told we could do so when we picked up the car. I was uncomfortable with that,so the next day I called the dealership to get an exact APR and payment for the car. Wajid Rauf called me back with an approx. APR & said my husband was unable to be on the loan because of his credit. I told him that he had to be to be eligible for the government incentive. The clunker was in his name only & that is what the program required. The following day,he called me back with an exact APR but again without my husband on the loan. I stated that we would be getting a loan from another bank & that we would be dropping off our clunker the next day. While we were on our way to the dealership, we received a phone call from Wajid Rauf. He stated that the government was out of money & the program was over. We called the government's hotline for this program and they said that was not true. We continued on our way there to dispute this. We had a signed purchase order with the Cash for Clunkers accepted on it & it was signed before the program ended. Later,we found out that the government was ending the program on Monday August 24th at midnight. The dealership was unable to rob us for thousands on the cost of this vehicle or make money off of the financing,so they chose to not accept the binding contract! Both Jamie Vasco and Steven Park, the general manager said they would not honor the agreement. We contacted the police and had them document what was happening. One officer actually told the manager that this was not right. We also called the government hotline again & another dealership we had been to. Both stated that both parties signed a binding contract & they had taken a deposit on the car. They advised us to get a lawyer & take them to court. We were told that because C.A.R.S. $4500 was written on the contract, that we had a leg to stand on. We will never again attempt to purchase a car from this dealership!!! We plan to write a nice letter about our experience to every website that allows feedback about dealerships. We just hope tha

Been to this showroom this week in lookout for a high-end Odyssey model. I was attended by this sales guy named Ajay Puri, a complete [violative content deleted]. I have been a Honda owner for the past 5 years. He was so sarcastic and arrogant in his language, often read between my lines and irritated me so badly that I would never return to Honda, minimally not to this dealership. He was forcing me to accept his quote and expecting me to make a decision in 10 minutes for a 30 K+ investment. When I resisted succumb to his pressure, he was applying his sales trick to touch my ego and made a fool of himself by stating that I might get a free Honda by year-end annual clearance. He even refused to honor a trade-in quote, what a previous associate had offered the same day. The only consoling part of this horror experience was I could vent out my disappointment to his manger. Shree Jasty, his manager was a smart, gentle and admirable sales manager who handled the situation so well. No wonder he has been managing such [violative content deleted]. I will never return to this dealership.
  • good dealership- bad salesman

2.5 out of 5 starsby newacuraowner on 06/27/2009

Open Road honda is a big dealership with some good inventory of new and used cars- great - and thats why i decided to drop in there. I walk into the car display lot- a sales man approaches me. He has'nt even reached near me when he shoots a question " are you ready to but a car today" clearly shows a desparate and pressurizing attitude that a salesman should not have - not in the first minute a customer has walked in And as I expected, his further talks revealed that he was a poorly trained salesman who behaved like he was hawking fake chanel and gucci bags on New York streets. long story short- Stay away From Bill Toro . zero professionalism- zero knowledge and complete pressure tactics. If you find something you like at this dealership, try talking to someone else. This is a decent dealership where you do get good deals- but not dealing with such pathetic salesmen.
    • I believe he was my salesman from the previous review on this site. Absolutely horrible.
