BAIT & SWITCH! VERY SNEAKY! Took my DP of $3000.00
by steelblue314 on 08/14/2008Used edmunds to contact this dealer. Got a quote for a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L w/Nav, for $24,516.00, through their "internet dept". So I miss work and go the next day, see a sales guy named Rob. Rob was cool, by the way. I told Rob about… the price I was given, he goes to speak with the manager (Pedro). You know how they do with the back n forth. Rob comes back, and says, "Who gave you that price?" I told him the internet dept (forgot the females name), he says the manager said the price of the car is $25999.00.(BAIT & SWITCH!) I was livid, and of course upset. So Rob goes back to Pedro, who says, we can't give you the car for that price, since that was "yesterdays price". But the internet dept said the price was good for today, I said. He says, "I'm sorry". Ok whatever! After about 3hrs, we agree on a price of $25000.00 even. Finance manager named Johnathan, tries to sell me all kinds of BS! (but thats his job, big shout out to Johnathan!) Which I decline, but still end up getting some kind of "Majestic "paint package for $699.99 ([violative content deleted]) Then wheel locks for $55.00, $365.00 DMV (DMV sent a check back for $101.00 for over pay, hmmm). I had a trade-in 2007 SUV with 10000 miles worth $17,000.00 (owed 21,7151.00) they give me $14,000 for the SUV (took $365.00 out of the $14,000.00 bringing the trade price to $13,635) I put $3000.00 which should have made the $25055.00 (added $55 wheel locks to this), $22,055.00!!! They ended up ADDING the $3000.00 to $25055.00 ($28,055.00 plus the neg equity $7,151.00. BAIT & SWITCH tactic, and trying to pad the invoice with this and that., taking my $3000.00 DON'T TRUST!!!Had a Good Experience
by ehess on 07/08/2008I don't understand all the bad reviews about this dealer. After reading all the reviews here I was afraid...despite the fact that they gave me the best price over the phone. I figured for sure that they were just going to try to rip me… off and that I would end up walking out. I came ready with my quote and Joel, my salesman, did not dispute my quote. The quote was almost too good and there was an add-on called the Millenium Package that took my quote higher by a few hundred dollars. I was not able to get rid of it entirely, but all in all I still walked away with a better deal than I would have gotten elsewhere (and a few extras I would not have gotten elsewhere). They let me drive away that day and took care of my license plates no problem....Joel even made a suggestion or two that saved me a couple of extra dollars. At the end of the day, I felt I had a good experience and quite frankly, I was a little angry at the prior reviewers. True there is a bit of a teaser quote that excludes the Millenium Package...but I still ended up better off than my lowest quote after checking around. [violative content deleted] Long and short is, I would not recommend excluding this dealer (Route 22 Honda) from your list. Call around for quotes and do your homework. Make sure you understand the out the door cost and the line items and you will probably do the best here...at least based on my experience. Lastly, I also liked their manager ... I was really paranoid about getting ripped off after reading all these reviews and he fielded my barrage of questions very patiently and professionally. Thumbs up.[violative content deleted]
by techmax on 05/22/2008Went to Rt. 22 Honda on Monday, gave them my credit card to put 500.00 down for a car that I liked worth 14,600.00 (Honda Civic 2005) On Tuesday I returned with a bank check of 8,500 to put down and finance the rest. Im a victim of… credit fraud so i have bad credit, took a family member on Tuesday to get the loan, we did all the paper work and I was finally waiting to get my car keys and take the car home. I was uptairs doing the loan, when I came down, the salesman told me, I can;t find your car here or any other building, he said, this is unreal, I think someone stole the car, now Im going to the Police Department to report the car as stolen, I knew that he was lying tru his teeth. The following day, went to Police Department in Hillside, Rt. 22 Honda never reported the car as stolen, they just felt like making more money by selling it to someone else. Dont you ever trust this [violative content deleted], they will sale their soul for a buck, and those guys who did these are hispanics like me, the General Manager apoligized to me when I told him, they got no morals, they will do anything to sale you the car. by fizersbulls on 05/15/2008I had went to Route 22 Honda about leasing a brand new Honda Accord, in Polished metal metalic with a V6 engine. The salesman whose name was Pedro had given me the pricing for this vehicle for the most basic model. Throught the entire… conversation I had expressed the fact that the vechile had to be V6. He said that it would cost me $350 a month for a 42 month term. After much negoting we had settled on this price, he expressed that it was a special deal based on the fact that my mother had purchased a Honda Fit with him also that night. Once we filled out all the paperwork for this V6 Grey new Honda Accord I then had my father sign the papers because the vehicle was under his name. It was then around 10:30 when we went outside to see a Belize Blue Pearl Honda Accord. I immediatly said to him that this wasnt the color that I had asked for and I didnt want that color. He then kept saying "Im sorry man, I must have put down the wrong color code but its such a hot color etc etc, I then decided just to take the vehicle because the color wasnt terrible. I then had also had the assurance from him that the vechile the wrong color was still a V6 engine, he assured me of this over and over. 3 weeks later I was at work and was talking to a few co-workers talking about my car and the had told me that it was not a V6 car. I instantly had checked on this and then found out that it wasnt a V6 it was a V4. Not only did they give me the wrong color but all together they gave me the wrong car. I am insured under a V6 car and am paying the lease price for a V6. I had called the dealership on monday telling them my problem and was assured that someone would call me back,it is now thursday and nobody did. I went into the dealership they told me there is nothing i could do or nothing they could do, they basically refused to help me telling me its not their problem and the seller denied ever having any disgussion abouta V6 vehicle. So basically I got screwed on having to pay more for this car because im paying for a V6 when in reality its a 4 cyl., They are sooooo dishonest dont even waste your time or money going here. OH and hope you have alot of time on your hands because we got to the dealership at 5pm and didnt get out till 10:30 at night becuase the paperwork took more then 5 hours for them to do.[violative content deleted]!! by yusee on 02/16/2008I had a real bad experience. The marketing dept quoted a price and then when i went there the sales person said that we dont honor what the marketing people have given you. They didnt have the model & price that i had in writing. They even… had a promotion for 50$ for a test drive. When I said that i want to test drive he said that i that would take manager's approval etc.. basically didnt want to even have a test drive. in short most unreliable and unethical dealership!!!!!! will never go to this dealer ever.Dishonest
by iwantacrv on 12/28/2007I went there after being told that they had a particular model in stock. Got there and was told that the person read the inventory wrong and that it was on a boat that should get there in 2 weeks. Whatever. We still tried to negotiate a… price for the car and got them to a number that they proposed. We walked away since we wanted to think about it. Called them the same day to see if the price was still good and they said yes. We come back and they tell us that the price is no longer good. After trying to explain to them what it means to honor a deal, they would not budge. They even told us that if they sold it to us at that price then they would try to sell it at a higher price to another customer to get out of the deal. They would basically take our deposit and try to sell the car to someone else. I can't believe they admitted to that. They tried to come down to the original agreed upon price but we walked away again. They even tried to pad the invoice with VIN etching. Unbelieveable. You can't do business with people you can't trust to uphold their end of the deal.Bait and Switch
by mapama on 10/01/2007I was also coerced by this dealer to come down to their showroom with an incredible price. They sent it in writing, which made me think that it was a done deal. The salesperson agreed on a price for my trade in before I had given him my… payoff. Once they realized that my payoff was about 2k lower than what they were giving me, they took back the offer. We walked out complaining about their lack of professionalism. Their lack of business ethics wasted about 3 hours of my time.NOT TO BE TRUSTED
by spence2 on 08/04/2007They had on there web site a public auction link for new vehicles that you would put in a bid for once my offer was $1000 less then list and they accepted you get there they refuse to honor it sounds like BAIT AND SWITCHWORST and HORRIBLE!!!! STAY AWAY
by msoberoi on 06/28/2013updated 04/25/2025HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE... WORST DEALERSHIP AND WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!! These people are NOT at all about customer service. They would just lie to you to get you into their dealership. I saw a specific used car online, called them and… they confirmed car is available. They had me come down right away to see it. I took off from work and went to straight to the dealership. So far so good but when I reached there, it was totally horrible experience. When I reached there, I asked for Jhon (Manager). Jose from his team came to see us. When I asked about that specific vehicle, he went in to get the keys for it. After 15-20 mins, he came back and said the car was in service and we would have to go to service (which is a mile away) to see and test drive the car. What stupidity is that? Anyways, we said fine and went to service. After getting there, he went inside and had us wait for another 20-30 mins doing nothing but standing outside service dept. After 30 mins, when I checked, he said "WE CAN'T FIND THE CAR"... I was like what the heck? They kept looking and still couldn't tell me where the car was (if it was in dealership or service or detailing)... what kind of ridicules thing is that? Then we went back to dealership and asked to speak with Jhon again (Manager) and to surprise, he was rude as well. He was not willing to accept his and his staff's mistake and wrong behavior. All I asked was that if dealership confirms an appointment, they should at least make sure they have the car ready and pulled up front to see it. On top, their rude behavior is just horrible. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANY VEHICLE FROM THESE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE. PLEASE STAY AWAY... WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS DEALERSHIP.I would have put zero star ratings but it's not an option
by apang on 10/15/2012updated 04/25/2025I am spending my time to write this long review regarding my experience with Route 22 Honda because I do not want you guys to waste your time here. I am a full time working mother with two kids. I was shopping for a Honda fit. With my… busy schedule, I thought I can save myself some time shopping for a new car on the Internet and/ or phone. I used edmunds.com price quote tool and entered my zip code. Route 22 Honda came up and I entered my information. Within 5 minutes later, a salesperson from Route 22 called. I explained to him that I am in the market for a Honda fit and I don't have time to shop from dealerships to dealerships. I told him that I am interested in the base model and if he can quote me the price and I am happy with the numbers, I will just come with my money and pick up the car. He calls me back about 15 minutes later and quote me $16,174 OUT THE DOOR, which he kept repeating to me that it includes tax, DMV and title fees. I told him that I will discuss this with my husband and will get back to him. I asked him to send the quote stating the price and what's covered with the price to my email. I received the email quote about 15 minutes later. 2 days later, I decided to buy the car. So I called the salesperson up after work. I asked him if there's any changes in the price and he said no, the price is the same as I quoted you in the email. So I asked him when is the soonest that I can pick it up. He said as long as I have the color in stock, you can pick it up today. He asked me can I give him two colors that I have in mind for. So I told him metal metallic and silver metallic. He calls me back and said he has ONE of the silver metallic in stock now. I repeated the price and asked him again if I can pick it up later. He confirmed yes again. He said he will have the vehicle ready when I come. Just ask for Garry the manager. He has all our email and conversations documented. I called up my babysitter to come over for a couple of hours to watch my two kids, called my husband to pick me up and went to the bank right away. I bought a cashiers check payable to Route 22 Honda for partial of the total amount.( I was going to put the rest into my credit card). An hour later we were inside Route 22 Honda. I asked for Garry and another salesperson came to us and said he can help us. I wanted my husband to try the Honda Fit before we pay so we went for a test drive. We came back after the test drive and ask him how much was it more for the sports model and got back with a number that was way much. So I told the salesperson that I will just take my Honda Fit base model that they had hold for me and showed him email that I had. He left for 15 minutes and came back with someone else. She said oh I have good news and bad news for you. Bad news is that the person you spoke with made a mistake. We can not sell the car to you for that price. We don't even have the car in stock. I was really upset at that point since I confirmed with him on the phone just an hour ago. Then she continues and said the good news is that I can offer you the 2013 Honda fit for a very good price. I said how can you confirmed with someone just one hour ago that you have the car in stock and when I drive all the way out here and now you don't? She claims that the salesperson that I spoke with on the phone only worked there for a week and he didn't know what he was doing. The quote should be $16,174 before all the fees and taxes. She said I can show you the employee records that state he has only been here for a week. Then she left to type up something in the back and show it to me as if I am a five year old and I am suppose to believe her. I am posting this two weeks later now due to my busy schedule. I don't want you guys out there to waste your precious time. I read reviews from all websites and I find it very useful and that's why I hope that my review will be helpful to everyone out there shopping for a car. Route 22 Honda had some bad reviews before I posted this. But I thought since I have the price confirmed in a email I am good. I was wrong. This is a very long review but everything that I said here it's the truth. I have the email saved if anyone wants to see it. Again I hope my review will help you guys think twice before even call this dealership up. Don't waste your precious time here. They will try to get you to go in there in every way they can so they can try to sell you a car for much more money.I apologize that you had a bad experience with our dealership. We are dedicated to 100% customer satisfaction through a hassle-free, stress-free car buying environment, but that is not the environment you're reporting. There is a lot here - I would like to speak with you directly about your visit. Please contact me at the email below to discuss your situation. Excellent
by tabithac on 06/10/2013updated 04/25/2025Route 22 Honda is great. I dealt with Alex and he was great! He had patience with me. The Big bosses were awesome they explained everything to me even the silliest question they and made me feel comfortable. I was by myself and i was not… taken advantage of buying a car. The finance dept manager explained all the warranties and optional products i can purchase that was a little scary because i love to buy things lol. Then they had a young gentleman David he went over all the little gadgets in the car. it was great i can connect my phone to get pandora in the car and i can text as well without picking up my phone no more tickets for me. My experience was EXCELLENT!!!! I will definitely recommend to all family and friendsBait and Switch
by Strategem911 on 05/19/2014updated 04/25/2025I came to the dealership with the printout of a Civic in their inventory and CarFax report. They brought out an identical Civic with an accident on the Car Fax report. When I realized I'd been duped, the vehicle I came in for was gone, and… I was cut a small check for the fraud. Their service department is great, though.DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!! This is why Jersey has a bad reputation.
by AstinMartin on 05/21/2013updated 04/25/2025Fast talking, empty promise making ("sure I'll show you the paperwork -after you give me a deposit"). The nicest way to describe our interaction was 100% deceitful. Gary (sales Mgr) & Craig (one of the Gen Mgrs) were interruptive,… argumentative, dismissive of our concerns and never returned the calls they said they would. This dealer owns a bunch of dealerships on Rte 22 - all of which charge a mandatory up-charge of $239. THey will tell you it is required and non-waivable, but that's just from this particular owner. Shop for better cars with a more scrupulous dealer. I have to have faith there is one somewhere in New Jersey.Save yourself, don't buy from this dealership!
by jamila1car on 06/15/2011updated 04/25/2025This started off as a really positive experience but turned into a nightmare. I initially worked with Addy, who offered me a great price. I drove all the way from Philadelphia and was satisfied with the whole transaction. In 2 days I had my… car. At the time of closing I was told that my real plates would come in the mail and there was nothing else I needed to do. Two weeks later no plates, so I called b/c the temporary paperwork would expire soon. I called for 3 days and each time I was trasnferred to Addy's voicemail. Eventually I complained to the operator that I kept leaving messages but no one was calling back and that time was of the essence. She transferred me to someone who told me I should not worry until 3 days BEFORE the expiration. Needless to say there were still no plates the day before, so I called was able to speak to a Manager(Matt) who promised to follow up and call me on Monday morning. That time came and went, no call. I called, and again played the game of voicemail. I called again on Tuesday as now Matt is not returning my calls, he says "your plates are here come get them". I asked how could I do that since my paperwork as expired. He said they would pay for any tickets and I should not worry about it because that's a "no point violation". I asked him if it was the position of the dealership that there customers should break the law, he insisted that it was a no points violation and I should just come and get it. I of course raised hell, but my friend had to put herself out of the way to drive from NJ to PA to get me the plates. On top of all this, Matt was shouting at me like I was in the wrong AND I came to find out that all that time the operator was transferring me to Addy's voicemail, he no longer worked there!! All this aside, they also have a non-optional "optional Millenium package". On the HOnda paperwork the package is listed under optional, but when I stated I did not want it (window etching, stain removal from the seat for 3 years) I was told that they do it as "standard" and all of their new cars. This standard costed an additional $999!!Finally, Nice and Simple
by dchauto1 on 06/21/2011updated 04/25/2025It started out so simple, go on the internet, find a used car and purchase it. After submitting several inquiries and fighting with a couple sales reps online about pricing, I came across Route 22 Honda. I got all the info and came into the… dealership. I was surprised when I got there. The showroom is beautiful, free coffee, pleasant receptionist, and some antique Hondas throughout the showroom.. a pretty cool touch. I dealt with Joemy, a new sales guy. He was very helpful... being on the Highway, I got a great deal and drove away the same day. Kudos to their staff for finally delivering what I was looking for all along, a nice and simple transaction.unscrupulous and did not honor written commitment
by lifongchen on 03/20/2011updated 04/25/2025Before you read my review, be sure to do research on consumer reports or edmunds for tips on buying a car. This review assumes that knowledge. Try to avoid this dealership.. I went against all the edmunds reviews of this that warned me to… avoid it, because they gave me a good deal for a 2010 Honda fit NEW. They gave me an internet quote and they did not honor this price! Since I dont have a car, I had to make arrangements to there.. I was excited bc I had been looking for a car for many many weeks! I get there.. theres Kuerig coffee maker.. its a standard dealership. The sales manager Joe Lynch did not honor the internet quote his staff quoted me bc he said the quote is based on "Rt 22's price gurantee which means in order to get this price you must present a competing dealership's written quote". I felt so duped! Rakeemah Jordan, the sales rep on the phone, will say and quote anything she wants online and on the phone. She literally said bring this $500 extra discount coupon in on top of my sales quote. Joe is great. I can't honor it over the phone, but Joe will really help you out. You always gotta negotiate for the price you want.. dont be discouraged by that! What floored me was that Rt 22 did not honor their written internet price. After feeling betrayed, I went on edmunds to get a price quote from other dealerships. Immediately I got a better price from Madison Honda. This price was 300 dollars less than Rt 22's supposed "best price" which is $1500 more than the internet quote Rakeemah quoted me. Now the price Rakeemah quoted sounded too good to be true bc the price she game me was a price you could only reach if you haggle with a salesman face to face. Rt 22 Honda is known for its gimmicks and trickery. When buying a car, shop around for a reputable dealership with good reviews. The definition of a good dealership at the very least, is one that will honor their written commitments. But this place will tell you all sorts of lies over the phone to get you into the showroom. And give you a ton sass and attitude on top of their unscrupulous ways.gresatisfyatly
by crv2009 on 04/24/2011updated 04/25/2025i went to nj to wonder arround cars dealer and see which one will have the greates value. i do go to several and was some dissatify. i was about to give up when my boyfried told me to check the honda dealer of route 22. it was the best… decisuon ever. i feel greatlly satisfy that we went over. the sales associate, nate Daniels was really nice and very helpfull. not pushy at all, and i loved that. the sale team did all they could to help me with the purchase on my 2009 cr-v exl. im really glad i step by.Nightmare - cause agony
by edisoncarbuyer on 03/09/2013updated 04/25/2025I never thought buying a new car could lead to sleepless nights and this dealership made it possible. My entire car purchasing experience during and after is beyond imagination. Since this is a big ticket purchase and due to the bad… experience, I had not only sleepless nights for several days and I could not focus at work. I wanted to buy a new car and I saw this dealership on my way to work. I went to their website just to see what they say about their dealership and promises they make to customers. They listed 6 reasons out of which i liked reason #2 and reason #3, because I have a busy schedule during the weekdays and on weekends. Reason #1 = Best Accord, Civic, CRV Lease Deals On The Planet Reason #2 = Price Match Guarantee Reason #3 = 2 Years Complimentary Maintenance Reason #4 = Family Owned and Operated Reason #5 = Easy In And Out Service Department! Reason #6 = Great New And Certified Preowned Selection So, instead of going places and spending time to make a deal, I decided to goto this place to buy Honda Accord since they promise price match guarantee, which is a piece of mind to any customer. I had horrifying experience because of two reasons, customer service at the showroom is horrible after the purchase, and I overpaid about $1000 to $1500. Here my story goes: I went there on Saturday evening around 6pm and met with one salesman and checked the car and its features etc and discussed the price within 30 mins, we had a deal on the purchase. It was pleasant experience till now. Then started the nightmare. Salesman printed some papers took my signature and took me to upstairs and asked me sit there for my turn to come for finance. - Salesman disappeared and left home without making sure all my paperwork complete and car was delivered. - Salesman did not return my creditcard and it was lost - I waited almost two hours for my turn to come with finance guy. When I my turn came, he was rushing me to sign all the paperwork to finish in 10 minutes. When I took time to read, he says you do not need to read it, just sign it. I could have refused it, but the point is he was rude. - I was charged $909 for gap insurance during the financing and finance guy told me it was mandatory since I do not have any money down. But later learnt that it was optional. - Finance guy told me that I dont have millenium package which salesperson aggreed to give, but salesperson already left. I had to go again on Monday to collect the paperwork for that package. - I wanted to take the delivery of the car on Monday since it was dark to verify everything and moreover it was snowing. But I was forced to take the delivery of the car. - Prior to this purchase, I had requested buying certificates online from nearby dealers and It did not come to my mind at the time of purchase to compare the price to the certificate price. I realized it next day and when I compared and it was about $1000 that I overpaid (based on comparison between base price + destination charges). I discussed it with salesman and sales manager about it on following Monday. Instead of patiently listening and resolving, I was called 'crazy', 'greedy'. $1000 is worth of my week's work, how could he say I am greedy. They offer price match guarantee, isn't it. When I questioned, they say it is only applicable prior to the purchase. Why would anyone waste time convincing this dealership to give the same price of other dealership offer. I would go to that place rather. They agreed that I overpaid, but they cannot do anything about it since I signed the contract. After several discussions through emails and phone calls, they agreed to give me one accessory like splash guards or wheel locks. But when I went to the stores to ask for atleast one additional accessory all weather mats, I was told that they cant give me anything (not even splash guards). Then I discussed this with someone from corporate when I got a call to inquire about how my experience was etc., after hearing the story he changed the tone and said I signed the contract etc. He was a waste of my time. No help at all. They have a board on the second floor that says, if you are not happy with the purchase email or call. I tried the number never got anyone to listen to my case. I emailed and no response. - I have few more things, but I will reveal them when I send a written letter to them. - Bottomline is, just because I signed contract they cannot disobey their promise and provide ill treatment to the customer. I feel guilty myself everyday when I see this showroom (on my way to work) for not doing enough research about this dealership and just trusting the website. I have all the documents and email conversations etc, with me. I am planning to discuss with my attorney on what my options are for causing pain and sleepless nights for me with their ill treatment. I will keep you posted. Meanwhile, I thought it will help others to understand how people are at this dealership.Do not be allured by false promises
by royalblood on 08/21/2012updated 04/25/2025I walked into Route22Hoonda to check a pre-owned Honda Civic and within two hours landed with a deal for a 2010 Honda Civic at a great price. That was fast!! Only to hit on a surprise two days later. The sales guy called that the price had… suddenly jacked up by $2000. They reasoned that some maintenance charges were not added at the time they had finalized the deal. I was about to drop it as I was on a hard-line budget and had other good offers on hand. But the Sales guy and his manager finally convinced me into buying the car at $800 higher than the final deal. They confessed the error but promised for a '6 Free oil changes' to compensate. Nothing mentioned on paper, but was assured that this was entered in the system. I trusted the verbal confirmation and walked away. Even recommended the dealership to few other colleagues at work. Only to discover four months later at the Service Center for my first service that no such thing as a 'free oil change' existed in the system for my car. After inquiring with the sales office now I wait for eternity to get a reply from Route 22 Honda sales team. A tip: Be sure you carry a dictaphone when you go to buy a car at Route22Honda. And keep the recorder on. They are great friends, but the deal, numbers and offers keep changing magically at a flick. We apologize for your bad experience with our dealership. We are dedicated to complete customer satisfaction and that does not appear to have happened in your case. I would like the opportunity to know more about how this confusion occurred between you and our dealership. Please contact me directly at your earliest convenience to discuss your situation. by NanaMe on 06/20/2013updated 04/25/2025Just wanted to thank everyone for the most positive and best experience I've ever had purchasing a vehicle for myself. I, a Senior Citizen was a little weary of purchasing a car was so impressed with how well I was treated with respect and… professionalism. I would also like to thank David, the young fellow who at delivery explained the bells & whistles to me and Craig, the manager he was so personable and easy to talk too. Will recommend all my family and friends to this dealership. Thanks again.2013 CRV
