SANTA MONICA, CA — September 7, 2023 — A new Edmunds study reveals significant gender differences in attitudes toward electric vehicles (EVs), with men being more likely to purchase EVs and women favoring hybrids or plug-in hybrids. While 71% of men are open to an EV purchase, only 34% of women share the same interest, often citing range and affordability as key concerns. Men, on the other hand, prioritize brand name and are more likely to embrace the latest technology. Women tend to take a pragmatic approach, focusing on range reliability and cost, with over a third waiting for EVs priced under $30,000. Automakers and dealers can bridge this gender gap by tailoring marketing strategies: emphasizing eco-friendliness and practical benefits for women, while highlighting innovation and technology for men. Addressing these distinct preferences offers a path to wider EV adoption and stronger consumer loyalty.
