- All ad formats are subject to rejection, and Edmunds may suspend and request new media assets, if Edmunds' technical or quality assurance standards are not met.
- In order to ensure performance of 3rd party resources, we ask that creatives are free of missing images and assets that result in 404 response codes. It is recommended that creatives are implemented in ways that avoid making use of unnecessary network requests for assets that won't be rendered as a visual element.
- Javascript errors must be avoided in all creative assets as any error within the creative can hinder the browser's javascript main thread and cause delays in page responsiveness and load times. Resource extensive javascript should be kept to a minimum, and defensive coding for javascript execution relating to HTML DOM elements and their attributes should be used as a best practice.
- Just like 404 errors, an individual JS error, when compounded with http requests and other scripts executing on page, can harm the overall user experience and Web-vitals metrics. This in turn will harm the site's Google Search Ranking.
- Rich Media format must be supported by Google Ad Manager (GAM), which is Edmunds' approved dynamic ad serving vendor.
- All campaign metrics must be trackable through GAM. GAM reporting is provided for third-party tracking.
- Edmunds does not pass any proprietary user data to third party vendors.
- Browser limitations should be noted by the creative vendor or agency.
- Edmunds does not allow mraid.js, creatives that rely on mraid.js should not be flighted to Edmunds.com
Video:
- Rich Media in-page video units (including video that is part of any other Rich Media unit on the page) must adhere to the following additional maximum file weight (polite download): 1.2MB.
- Number of subsequent loads: 1-2
- Hot spot should be no more than 25% of the entire ad unit.
- Rich Media containing video must begin within 3-5 seconds upon load and stream without pause.
Audio:
- All audio events/streams must be user-initiated (via click). User option to turn sound off is required.
- Sound under one second (e.g., "click", "beep") is not allowed for mouse-over events.
- Ads with background sound looping must have a prominent on/off mute button.
- If deemed distracting, Edmunds reserves the right to have any sound removed.
